#StudyFiqh - Islamic Jurisprudence Part 20 Imam Ibn Qudamaah continues (I have left out some sections that are not, in my opinion, important). The impurity of the dog and the pig should be washed seven times, including one time with soil. It shall be sufficient for the rest of the impurities to wash them three times until purified. And if the impuritys on the ground then pouring over it will remove its impurity. Because of the saying of the Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him), So pour upon the urine of the Bedouin one bucketful of water. -----What do we take from this: A pig’s impurity may be washed once and that is the position chosen by Shafiees and is the opinion of some Hanbalis who have stated that the analogy between a Pig & Dog is incorrect since the dog and pig are not similar. Also, there used to be pigs during the time of the Messenger (Allah’s peace and blessings be on him) and he did not make any specific regulations regarding the removal of their impurity. This is a Strong opinion, even if it contradicts the text. CASE STUDY: What if a dog touches me? Abu Hurairah reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: The purification of the utensil belonging to any one of you, after it is licked by a dog, lies in washing it seven times, using sand for the first time. This applies to utensils by agreement (except for some disagreement over the number of washes). As for the clothes touched or licked by dogs, there is a disagreement over this issue. According to Imam Malik the ruling does not apply to clothes. His opinion is strong, since the Prophet did not mention the clothes, and likening the clothes to the utensils is not a perfect analogy / Qiyas. Some of the shafe’ees and hanbalis indicated that soap would suffice instead of soil. Impurities should be washed until clean..if once then it is enough, if more than one time is needed then so be it. What is an Impurity that ends Ritual cleanliness (Renders one unable to pray until cleaned):IMPURITIES ARE:• The excrement and urine of Human beings. Except the urine of a young male child.• Dog saliva• Feces and Manure• Menstrual Blood• The flesh of swine Other than these (above mentioned) there is disagreement (amongst the scholars as to there degree of impurity). The principle (of deeming things impure) is (that all things are in a natural state) of Tahaarah (purity). They remain pure unless they are rendered impure by an authentically known source of unopposed impurity. Impurities are to be cleansed by being washed. (It is to be washed thoroughly) until there is no trace, color, smell or taste of the impurity remaining. Shoes are to be cleansed by dragging and wiping them upon the ground. If the Najaasah turns into another material it becomes pure since its original impure nature –which was the source of the impurity- ceases to exist. That which cannot be washed (due to its physical dimensions i.e. the ground), water is to be poured upon it (in sufficient amounts to purge it of the impurity) or it is to be expunged until no trace of the Najaasah remains. Water is the primary cleansing tool that is to be used when purifying and cleansing. Nothing can be used (by itself) in its place unless there is an explicit permission alluding to this granted from the Lawgiver (Allah SWT).
