StudyNote – Quest for Eternal Life (2) Worship puts your focus on God. A true worshipper of the most high God does not shift his gaze from God, regardless of the challenges of life he keeps lifting his eyes to the hills from where help comes from. This is because he knows that without God’s help he cannot win the race for eternal life. The determination to enjoy eternal life with God the Father is like running a race. Only those who finish the race will reign with Christ and live forever in heavenly bliss. Permit me to say that the Christian race is a race toward eternal life with God in the heavenly kingdom. It is true that God wants us to take charge in this earthly kingdom, but the climax of our rulership on earth is a victorious ride into heavenly bliss. It is written: “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV). There is a race marked out for us as believers, and winning this race qualifies us for eternal life. We have to stay away from sin and avoid every obstacle that can prevent us from making it to the finishing line. Worship is an act of faith. You express your faith in God by worshipping Him in spirit and in truth. Don’t forget that the Father seeks those who will worship in spirit and in truth (John 4:23). Faith is pioneered and perfected by Jesus Christ, when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour you begin to learn how to live by faith. This ‘faith-walk’ makes worship happen. By faith we live and we live to worship the Trinity. Thus, with a heart filled with faith an atmosphere for worship is created. The race marked out for us is a race to meet our Redeemer,it is a race energized through worship. Energy to keep running with perseverance is given to us as we spend time in worship. God accepts true worship and releases power to keep running the Christian race to us in return. True worship in this context means worship that flows from a pure heart. Scripture says: “Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,Nor sworn deceitfully (Psalm 24:3-4).” If you don’t worship God you will worship something else. Worshipping God begins on earth and it continues in heaven. Worship is infinite. Our primary assignment when we enter into eternal life in the heavenly kingdom is to worship (see Revelation 5:154; 7:11). Worship starts now because it is the Father’s heartbeat! We are going home to worship the King of kings, this is why worship right here and now is a way of saying “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Mathew 6:10).
