Pera Te Amo and his crew ripped up the car park outside the Countdown supermarket in Ferrymead in April when lead contractor Watts and Hughes Construction failed to pay for the completed work. The High Court ruled Te Amos Whakatane-based company, Complete Siteworks, should be paid more than $300,000 for materials and work completed. The courts judgment stated Watts and Hughes Construction should not have withheld the money. Te Amo still faced criminal charges in relation to the car park damage but was celebrating his High Court victory. Im surprised you couldnt hear me yelling for joy, he said. Its one for the little guys. Watts and Hughes had been ordered to pay the money within seven days of the High Courts judgment. Te Amo wanted the Government to improve the Construction Contracts Act to ensure subcontractors were paid before lead contractors. Ad Feedback - The Press
