Stupidest thing Ive heard all week is Rush Limbaugh saying British actor Idris Elba cant play James Bond because Bond is white and Elba is black. Bond is a fictional character, created by novelist Ian Fleming who appears in novels and films written by many different writers. Hes younger in the newer movies than he is in the older movies. Theres no consistent back story for the character across the James Bond canon. The backstory of the current Bond, played by Daniel Craig, will be scrapped when a new actor is chosen to play the role. Thats because Bond isnt one person, James Bond is just the name used by whomever is the MI6 agent 007 at the time. Bonds boss, M, is a man in some films, a woman in others. Idris Elba would be a great James Bond, though Im hoping they keep Daniel Craig around for more films after Spectre, his fourth Bond film, coming out in 2015. His three Bond films so far are among the best in the entire half-century run of movies. Ive got no problem with a black James Bond. Id also love to see them come up with a female 007 at some point - shed go by Jane Bond. Imagine all the stereotypical characteristics and character flaws of the Bond character over the years, but wrapped up in a female agent, portrayed by a British actress of course. Keira Knightley, perhaps. Shed kill.
