> Subject: DEQ fracking regulations > Reply-To: dontfrackmichigan > > ============================ > Dear Friends, > > The DEQ has drawn up new regulations on fracking for Michigan. Public hearings in Lansing and Gaylord last week were attended by several hundred people, the vast majority of whom expressed concern that the regulations do not protect our water, public health or the environment. The DEQ is taking written comments on their proposals until July 31. This is our opportunity to tell the DEQ that fracking cannot be made safe in Michigan. No amount of regulations can stop the need for large volumes of groundwater needed in the fracking process, (which is contaminated and must be removed forever from the hydrologic cycle). No amount of regulations can prevent the industrialization of State land - clearcut forests for well pads, roads, pipelines, compressor stations, etc. No amount of regulation can make drilling operations compatible with recreation use, wildlife habitat, and tourism on our State land. No amount of regulations can stop the noise, lights, continuous traffic associated with heavy industrial operations on State land or in our communities. > > Below are examples of comments made at the Gaylord DEQ hearing. Feel free to use ideas from these letters or write your own ideas. The letters do not have to be long - a couple sentences saying fracking cannot be made safe would be fine. The DEQ needs to hear from the public on this. Please make your opinions known. > > Comments can be sent to > DEQ Office of Oil, Gas and Minerals > P.O.
