SCAM ALERT – PHONE CALLS FROM “473” AREA CODE Consumers who miss a call from a 473 area code should refrain from calling back. This scam has already impacted government cell phones. It may be the 473 scam, which means calling back could cost you $20. Consumers report getting calls from a 473 area code and hearing moaning and groaning on the other end of the line before the phone goes dead. Those who call back get charged $19.95 because the number functions like a 1-900 number. The area code is based in Grenada in the Caribbean. Some say they heard a voice of someone claiming to be in distress. People return the call, thinking 473 is a domestic area code because the country code is 1, and incur enormous charges on their phone bills. Michael J.
