Subject: IM TURNING JAPANESE NEW YEARS TEA Here is an interesting tea to begin the New Year with - Japanese Matcha tea. As 10pm rolls around, and I am looking for two hours to kill until midnight and I find that Champagne is not the most popular drink around the holidays - Its Tea. I found online, one company, Hibiki-an, offers a Golden Celebration Matcha tea that it claims the Japanese drink on New Years Day as part of a long-standing tradition. It said The tea is consumed while praying for the welfare of the household, and appreciating the good fortune of the previous year. It is a special moment, full of happiness and hope for the future. The tea is prepared and small gold flakes are sprinkled over the cups for good luck. I looked up this company and it costs $53.00 to buy the whole tea set. It makes me really want to open a Japanese tea shop. I have never ordered gold sheets for ...anything really. I suppose I should try it just once to see what my dinner guests would say, especially at a cook out with hot dogs. Matcha tea is a highly concentrated Green Tea that is ground into a powder. It is rich in nutrients, antioxidants, fiber and chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is really under rated. Chlorophyll has been the main ingredient in gum but I think it could expand into so much more. Lets start putting it in chocolate bars or ice cream! Yum? But the point is that Matcha Tea, though it has caffeine, is still a relaxing beverage. Ofuku-cha is another lucky tea that is consumed on New Years Day in Japan. It is sencha (steamed green tea) with pickled plum and dried kelp. Dude, I would so totally order that at a restaurant! Im sorry, but I tried to look up traditional American New Years Teas but when I did a search nothing popped up on my scroll. Nope, America is about consuming large amounts of booze (not that theres anything wrong with that) whereas other countries, like Japan like to eat symbolic foods and drink special tea as a celebration into the New Year. I think I prefer the Japanese Tea tradition. I think Im turning Japanese. Oh yes. I think so! With that said I want to wish you all a prosperous New Year! Please party your ass off, kiss, hug, drink, punch someone in the face, get thrown in jail naked but for Gods sake be safe doing it all! The most important part is that you wake up refreshed and ready to take on the new year and be sure to kiss your parole officer for good luck! Love Kerry
