Subject: Press Statement The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure on Friday struck out the appeal filed by the Independent NationalElectoral Commission (INEC) against the judgement of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo over the eligibility of Ambassador Olusegun Akeju to supervise the 2011 National and State Assembly elections. In the case filed by the PDP, the trial judge assumed jurisdiction to hear the case which the INEC appealed against. A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy disclosed that contrary to the blatant lies and falsehood been peddled about by the PDP, the court did not give any order relating to the elections conducted in 2011 because it has not even heard the case at all. While not holding the stead for INEC, the opposition themselves know that it was not Akeju that conducted the said election. The statement added that the court struck out the injunction of INEC on the ground that it was not properly filed, meaning that the substantive case at the Federal High Court can proceed. It would be recalled that INEC during the build up to the poll and in the face of a case against its REC to step aside for the Administrative Secretary to supervise the poll. In conclusion, Hon Akere asked members of the public to disregard the rumours being spread by the opposition party in the state, describing it as an attempt to confuse the public and give false hope to its daily diminishing members while wondering aloud when PDP will learn and turn away from the path of deceit which will never bring it any fortune. HON SUNDAY AKERE COMMISSIONER FOR INFORMATION & STRATEGY, OSUN.
