Subject: The Spirit of Late Senator Victor Akan emerges at 2014 ODU USA Conference at Miami Florida My dear Oronians, For three days from Friday August 29th to September 1st 2014,indigenes of Oro world wide and friends of Oron gathered at the Hyatt Regency Hotel ,Miami ,Florida ,United States to participate in the 22nd Annual Conference of Oron Development Union , United States. Every year, at about this period ,we Oronians in the United States gather to deliberate on the future of Oronians as a people . Our focus is to demonstrate our willingness to play a role in the socio -economic development of Oron Nation and also participate in matters affecting us as a people both at home and in the Diaspora . Attendance Besides the presence of the membership of ODU USA Inc, Conference was happy to have in our midst the presence of our worldwide President General, Okete Okete Engr. Asuquo Iniukim. The Conference Chairman was Senator Bassey Ewa Henshaw ,currently Chairman of the Governing Board of NDDC, while the Chief Launcher was Engr. Esin Dan Abia of Miami Chapter. I wish to specifically thank His Excellency,Governor Godswill Akpabio, CON, who was represented by the Minister for Lands ,Housing and Urban Development, Hon Mrs. Akon Eyakenyi , for his generous donation to the Union. Accompanying the Hon Minister were, Hon . Okon Osung,Chairman Urue Offong LGA ,Chairlady of Udung Uko LGA,Hon Kenim Onofiok,Chairlady of Okobo LGA,Hon Princess Felicia Bassey,and Chief Okon Osung ,Chairman Oron Think Tank. Also attending from Nigeria were Elder Dr Inyang Atting ,Former Secretary General, Oron Union worldwide,Dr Etim Frank, Abuja Branch President Oron Union Barrister and Mrs Isikong Isong ,Mr and Barrister Ekanem Etim ,Arch and Hon. Justice Isangedighi, Engr. and Mrs Anietie Effiong ,Mr. and Dr.Mrs Oku Ukpong,and Mr. Victor Umiom, Attending from United Kingdom were Dr.and Mrs. Okon Edeke and Mr. Patrick and Nkoyo Nkereuwem, and Mr Dallas Sam of Bangkok Thailand was also in attendance. Finally ,I wish to express my sincere gratitude to all our invitees ,and our membership.If I have missed any names,please be assured that it must have been an oversight and I sincerely apologize.Most importantly,I wish to thank the Chapter President of Miami,Dr John Esin ,the Chief Launcher Chief Esin Dan Abia, the Town Hall Moderator,Dr. Sonny Dan Abia, and the Chairman Conference Planning Committee ,Mr Ita Ntekim and his wife for a job well done. Deliberations In her address to Conference, Hon Minister Akon Eyakenyi specifically addressed the Conference on the role of her Ministry towards providing affordable housing to meet the demands and the growing needs of our people.She also stated that provision has been made for us in Diaspora to also benefit from the program and encouraged everybody to explore the possibilities . Conference noted with satisfaction the successes of ODUS free medical services and scholarship awards at Oron and here in the United States. In appreciation of the work that ODU USA is doing in providing free medical services and scholarship awards to the needy at Oron. Dr. Mrs. Mina Victor Akan ,wife of late Senator Victor Akan ,following her powerful speech to Conference,announced that henceforth ,she will be willing to provide the volunteers with free accommodation at Otoyo Estate throughout the duration of the Free Medical Mission. Furthermore ,she also announced that she was interested in the award of scholarships to the less privileged students and requested the Union to meet with her to work out the modalities. Dr. Mrs. Akans speech and invitation to ODU USA evoked a lot of speeches and memories from the Conference floor in remembrance of late Senator Victor Akan. After about 26 years of the death of this ICON ,the spirit and presence of of late Senator Victor Akan moved from one end of the Conference hall to the other.It was indeed a solemn touching moment of mixed feelings and Conference came to a stand still for moments . During the Town Hall Meeting on the STRATEGIC VISION FOR ORO 2015, Conference approved that ODU USA should reaffirm and republish the position of the Committee of the Oron Traditional Rulers Council entitled :- Akwa Ibom State Governorship in 2015 : A Call For Total Support From the People Of Akwa Ibom State For Oro Nation To Produce the Next Governor. Two of the aspirants , Engr. Larry Esin and Barrister Asuquo Okpo addressed the Conference stating how they intend to govern if elected. A third aspirant , Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem who was absent due to unavoidable circumstances announced his aspiration, through his representative , Dr. Anthony Ikaiddi. Election of two members of the Board of Trustees Conference elected two new members of our Board of Trustees in the persons of Chief Esin Dan Abia and Dr. Nkoyo Onofiok to replace two members that were relieved of their positions.
