She was the oldest of five brothers and sisters. Chelsey was baptized, received her first communion, and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City. Chelsey attended Southern Cal High School and graduated with honors with the class of 2011. After high school, Chelsey attended Wartburg College where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in May 2014. Graduating in three years was an achievement she was so very proud of! This past summer and fall she was employed with Home Choices, where her passion for helping others and putting their needs before her own shown through immediately to the lives of her clients. Once again leaving her gentle touch and compassion on those she came in contact with. In November she received word of her acceptance into the Occupational Therapy Master program at Concordia University in Wisconsin, beginning in January. Some of Chelsey’s highlights through her high school years include running track for Coach Knapp and competing at the state track meets. She also competed in volleyball and basketball for four years excelling in each. Chelsey was on the National Honor Society, Top Ten, Student Council, Mixed and Swing Choir, and was honored to be on the Homecoming Court. She also enjoyed volunteering for many community activities and lifeguarding and managing the Lake City Pool. Her college years were spent expanding her pool of friends, joining the Biology and Athletic clubs, working for Coach Newsom and running track for him. Her trip to Barbados with the track team was the highlight of her years there. Chelsey especially enjoyed this summer’s trips to St. Louis watching her beloved Cardinals and also visiting the love of her life, Andrew in Canada where they created priceless memories as they visited the mountains and Chelsey took Andrew on his first canoeing experience. Chelsey will be remembered most for her genuine heart, sweet personality, the twinkle she carried in her eyes but most of all for her bright smile that always lit up a room and affected the lives of all she came in contact with. She enjoyed running, Facetiming her beloved and best friend Andrew, playing board games with her siblings and attending all of their activities when she could. Chelsey was their number one fan and a GREAT big sister! She was preceded in death by her grandfather, John L. Coon. Those left to celebrate her life include her parents Jim and Jodi, and her siblings Ashley, Derrick, Emily and Joshua all of Lake City; her fiancé Andrew Lauver, Lake City; grandparents Janice Coon of Carroll and Jerome and Norma Henkenius of Arcadia; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
