Press release from NYSRPA Mayor Ron Pilozzi of the City of Tonawanda has released a statement regarding a campaign contribution check in the amount of $2,522.10 that was received from Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York City. “I was quite surprised by this gesture as neither I nor anyone on my staff solicited this contribution” he said. The Mayor said he first joined the ranks of Mayors Against Illegal Guns at Bloomberg’s invitation and was lead to believe that the main thrust was to keep illegal guns out of the hands of people who might do harm to others or in the act of a crime. As time went on, the Mayor said it became evident that the main thrust was to support anti-gun legislation that deprived the “right to bear arms guaranteed by the Constitution. “Further I learned that Mayor Bloomberg supported the Safe Act which was signed into law by Governor Cuomo” he stated. The Safe Act was passed under the cloak of necessity and was ill conceived and conducted without the legislative or public input that normally would occur. “As a consequence of what I have learned about Mayors Against Illegal Guns, I have decided to resign from the organization” Pilozzi said.
