Success is changing lives at Dogs for the Disabled. With our ever expanding waiting list we are always looking to new opportunities to enable us to provide our service more efficiently. This year we placed to Broods in pup (Emily & Friday) in The Dochas Centre (womans prison Dublin). Emily had 9 perfectly healthy Labrador puppies and Friday had 8 perfectly healthy golden retriever puppies. Both Emily and Friday were placed into the care of individual women, where they catered for their every need. Even the puppies were born in their rooms with support and the vets on call. A huge THANKS goes out to the Governor, staff and specifically the two women involved in the dogs care but not forgetting our vet Paul Kelly, Breeder Angela Hancock, Breeder Orlagh Murry, puppy socialisers of Emily (James) & Friday (Fiona) , Petrina (Emilys breeder) and Michelle (who cares for Anna, Fridays mom). We breed our own puppies because we want the BEST PUPPIES with the best health and temperaments. Every week we get phone calls donating unsold puppies and while in the past we would of taken them we have had to stop because almost every puppy had either health or behavioural problems and the reality is that in order for our puppies to qualify under Assistance Dogs International they must have a perfect health and temperament history from birth. Therefore we pick the best of the best for our breeding programme and then choose the best of them to breed from. All breeding stock are medically checked for genetic abnormalities at 12mths and monitored continuously there after. Both Friday and Emilys puppies are all doing great on our puppy socialisation programme and we look forward to them coming in for training to become assistance dogs next year.
