Successful New Years Eve party on Rainbow 2. We went to Rainbow - TopicsExpress

Successful New Years Eve party on Rainbow 2. We went to Rainbow 2 from 5 - 7 p.m. this evening to host a party for the patients, their families, and the staff. It saws very well received. The 12 Days of Keira Fundraiser helped support this event so we wanted to be sure to share some feedback with you as well as some pictures from the party. We brought Jimmy Johns sandwiches, a veggie tray, a fruit tray, chips, cookies, pop, and some sparkling grape juice. There were about 18 patients and their families members on Rainbow 2 for their inpatient stays. This was a perfect evening to host this type of event. Several patients came out of their rooms for the first time in a couple days. The smile on their family members faces made it well worth it. Just getting out of the room can be a big first step. Their was a wide variety of age ranges there: 1 year old all the way to 26 years old. Everyone seemed to come out for food or had some brought to their rooms. We also brought some fun new years eve items: hats, tiaras, noise makers, beads which helped make things more festive and fun. We played LEGO movie out by the nurses station. There was a couch setup in front of it and we ended up having a few patients watch the movie. We also had some carnival games setup that a few of the kids enjoyed. The childlife specialist also setup a photo booth for people to get their picture for ringing in 2015. Overall it was a great setup. We brought some fun arts/craft activities too: small legos for each of the patients, crafts (such as dogs, cats, cars, etc.) that could be painted. Models that could be built and sand art. We also brought some wall decals (Frozen, Avengers, Mickey, etc.) for patients to put on the walls in their rooms to make it more fun and like home vs. a boring hospital wall. We were able to talk to several of the families. We also brought some Keurig coffee and some fresh cream as we always enjoyed that while at the hospital vs. powered cream and hospital coffee. We left the carnival games with Rainbow 2 for patients to use in the future. We also left any unused arts/crafts so that can be handed out to patients in the future. Overall it felt like a very successful event and the families were very thankful for what the foundation did today. Thank you to all of you for helping support this event through your donations. You made a big difference to these families tonight. Here are a few pictures to start with. We will add more later tonight or tomorrow. Happy New Year from the Keira Kilbane Foundation.
