Successful Wild Goose chase! Thanks to Adrienne Popko and todays field trip participants for finding and reporting 2 Cackling Geese at Weeping Spruce Preserve (aka Church Pond) in Amenia. Here is one of the cacklers (in back) with a Canada Goose. Cackling Goose used to be considered a subspecies of Canada but was split off into its own species a few years ago. The tiny bill and small size are key features to look for. Thanks also to Dotty Fleury, who was there when I arrived, for sticking around and helping me find the little goose -- it was a team effort!
