Successive governments, leaders widened Shia-Suni divide in Tangmarg Leaders followed divide and rule policy: Abbad Wani Tangmarg, November 26: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday said that successive governments have ignored the aspirations of Shia voters in Tangmarg by resorting to a ‘divide and rule’ policy leading to infusing of deep resentment among the minority sect which is otherwise craving for equitable development and rights. The party said that the previous governments have vitiated the atmosphere by painting it with sectarian colors which not only brewed hatred among the two sects but led to Shia brethren always being kept at the receiving end. I know that Shia voters here have not got their share of pie when compared with their Sunni brethren. However, my job is to unite the two sects and ensure that both get equal shares in every sphere, PDP candidate for Gulmarg constituency, Mohammad Abbas Wani, said while addressing gatherings in Shia dominated Sonim and Yaal villages. Unity of the two sects, Wani said is high on PDP agenda and he added will be realized once the party is voted to power. With a good share of Shia voters, Wani acknowledged the huge amount of trust reposed in him by the Shia voters in Tangmarg who the young PDP leader said were neglected by DPN and NC equally. I am committed to unite Sunni and Shias. Both will be an indomitable part of Tangmargs development process if PDP assumes power here. There will be absolutely no room for sectarian divides as has been propounded by the previous regimes, Wani said. I have visited many Shia dominated areas in my constituency. Discrimination is written all over the places where my Shia brothers have not been given the rights they deserved. Successive regimes have made a mockery of them denying them equitable development by playing cards of sectarian divides, added Wani. He added that PDP is the only party fostering bonhomie and brotherhood among all the sects in the state. If PDP has a Sunni stalwart like Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Sahib then it is the same party which gave Kashmir one of its greatest Shia leader late Moulvi Iftikhaar Hussain Ansari Sahib, said the young leader. During my interactions with Moulvi sahib I only learnt that there exists nothing like a Shia creature or a Sunni one. He gave me the insight of respecting all the sects. Whatever I have imbibed from him will only pass onto you through my work in the coming six years if my party assumes the charge here, he added. While asking the gathering to remain vigilant about the insidious designs of BJP, Chief spokesperson of the party, Naeem Akhtar said that PDP is the only party which can stop BJP from assuming power in J&K and carry on what he said the its (BJPs) sinister plans of abrogating article 370 and doing away with the sacrosanct State Subject Laws. With your support we will defeat BJP from snatching special status of the state as guaranteed by article 370. BJP which has affirmed its position of doing away from the State Subject Laws here, Akhtar said. PDP is the only force capable of thwarting BJP from extending its arms in Kashmir. BJP has able support through NC and other parties but it is for you to understand that only PDP can foil the insidious designs of the Saffron brigade, he added. Focusing on Tangmarg, Akhtar said that the area has huge potential for various tourism activities which he added will be fully harnessed by PDP if voted to power. Generation of employment, he added is high on the partys agenda. Endowed with breathtaking beauty and natural resources more than two lakh educated youth can be absorbed here in different avenues. If voted to power PDP will make Gulmarg the crown of Kashmir by promoting it across the world, said Akhtar. State secretary, Mohammad Maqbool Mir, prominent worker, Mohammad Shafi, Zonal president, Abdul Aziz Dar, prominent leader, Prof. Jabbar and others were also present on the occasion. Wani also visited Krishhama, Bonbani, Mughama, Narpora, Kadibugh and Mirgund and addressed the gatherings there.
