Such a beautiful ceremony at my daughters school this morning for Veterans Day but upset/offended/frustrated/heart sad about the end. As we filed out, the principal stood shaking the hands of all the men in front of me thanking them for their service. My husband, who was right in front of me in the line of people exiting, did not serve, but sacrificed none the less as all family of Service men and woman do so I was happy for him when she shook his hand and personally thanked him; however, as I extend my hand to her feeling quite honored, she dropped her hand and turned away :/ It felt like I had been slapped in the face. I gave everything I had for my country and was right there at the Pentagon the day that terrorists decided to tragically end the life of so many people. I stayed and triaged even though I was 9 months pregnant with Tahlia. I shed blood and tears many times over for my country and after 2 hours of raw emotion listening to poems, taps, The Army Goes Rolling Along, eloquent, heartfelt speeches of gratitude, I was already an emotional wreck; then to end the morning like that... it truly left me heartbroken. Please be conscious that a great deal of Service men are actually women!! We were/are right there in the trenches with our male counterparts and sacrifice just as much- often it feels like even more when we have to leave our babies behind in Service of our country.
