Such a fantastic story to share from today: I was going for a walk to West Campus because of how nice it is outside, and as I was walking past St. Marys hospital, a man in a wheelchair from the other side of the street got my attention by calling out and waving his arms. He was all by himself and I couldnt understand what he was saying, so I crossed the street to speak to him. He really struggled to speak, but pointed and communicated to me that he needed a push; he said he had to go to his godparents house. I told him I was going west anyways, and that of course he could come with me. So as I pushed him, I learned that his name was Willy and that he hates how he rarely gets to go outside. He really likes going for walks and was beside himself with happiness that I was pushing him. He must have thanked me 8 times throughout our 20 minutes together. He directed me to his godparents house and I went and rang the doorbell. This phenomenally friendly woman answered the door and called out to Willy, and the smile that Willy responded with seemed like it stretched from Toronto to Ganonoque. According to his godmother, he is a patient at the hospital and lives there, but she was so grateful that I walked with him because now she could visit with him. She added that very few people ever visit Willy, so that making a new friend today will have made his week. She gave me a hug and I went on my way. I am so happy I met you, Willy! I hope our paths cross again sometime :)
