Such a privilege & a Joy, to be speaking/singing the gospel at Espaco Nova Vida Church in Portugal last night. What an amazing place! Up until a year ago they were meeting in a garage, daily reaching out to the poor & needy in their community. Then one morning, the local Mayor (a communist) knocked on the door of the leader’s house & took him to a building with an expanse of land. He then handed over the keys saying, ‘this land & property is yours for free, with one condition, that you continue to bring the LIFE you have been bringing into the community. I know most churches these days are reaching out to the community, but this is one of the best examples I’ve seen, who on a daily basis are being a blessing to the local people, with FREE after school help for kids, and a host of FREE Concerts, free lessons in Modern Dance, Ballet, Music, Art etc & financial advice help & provision for the poor in the area. When a local ‘Communist Mayor’ knocks on your door offering property & land for the work of God, that’s pretty mind blowing! The leaders are Luis Gonçalves and his wife Carla. Luis,is a long time friend of Chris Bowater, The first time I met him was in the Grapevine band, Lincoln in 2000, playing trombone. A brilliant musician! I’ve come away with a renewed love for local church, that is a blessing to the community. Not driven by guilt, but simply compelled by the Love of Christ & a Love for Humanity, to BE Good News in & beyond the walls.
