Sudacadreams by Giovanny Páez is an Ecuadorean interdisciplinary visual artist and curator based between Germany and Spain. His practice is concerned with the manipulation and appropriation of text, images and environments, through a variety of forms including print, installation, sculpture, sound and performance. His works explore the possibility of constructing a narrative whose aesthetics take sample from everyday objects based on autobiographical experiences while addressing the spectacle nature of the artwork itself, and so his work ranges from minimalist sculpture and media installation to photography, painting and performance video work. His work also engages different curatorial approaches to site specific performance, action and intervention in the public realm. His projects are often socially engaged and use a combination of participative and collaborative methodologies. Further interests of his are the complex relationships between live performance art and institutional critique over power forms and cultural organisms which are increasingly complex to detect. Giovanny’s use of humour and irony are important and deliberate aspects of his practice that allow him to examine the societal matters that consume our contemporary lives.
