Sudan Immigration Department deported 27 Nigerian Students on arrival over Ebola. Returning students on holidays and new intakes from various states across Nigeria were this morning 11/12/2014 around 1.50am to 4.50am denied entry to Khartoum, the Sudan capital to Addis Ababa on Ethiopia Airlines. This is as a result of the fear of Ebola spreading to Sudan as we are informed without carrying out any medical test on them. Precisely Sunday this week, the Sudanese immigration issued a notice that the 6 Ebola affected countries students immigration procedures for exist and re-entry visa has been suspended indefinitely causing a great fear for those planning to travel home for any purposes to reconsider their interest. Making things worst for those deported students, the airline in Addis Ababa is demanding 500 United States dollars for purchase of their return ticket to Nigeria further complicating their psychological torment and depression. Not limited to students’ deportation on arrival, those who had earlier arrived for first year studies are denied registration at University of Bahri unless they provide Ebola free medical report from a specific hospital in Sudan thereby raising the following questions; 1- Can citizens of an Ebola free country spread Ebola to others without contacting it? 2- Were the students not screen before departing Nigeria? 3- Can Ebola patient be healthy enough to prepare for 6hrs and above journey? 4- Why Nigeria despite been declared Ebola free by World Health Organization (WHO)? Deputations of Nigerians in Sudan is now a rampant occurrence from hepatitis B disease now to targeting Nigerian students as an Ebola country. Many unknown students has suffered deportations for no criminal offences than just Ebola cases and hepatitis. When will this Sudanese people learn to follow International norms and understanding? Action Just like the yellow card issue with South Africa, it is high time Nigeria Government MUST reciprocate with decisive measures to the Sudanese Authorities. Innocent students MUST not continue to suffer for their trans-border quest for education in what supposed to be an Islamic friendly country. This is a wakeup call to the Federal Government of Nigeria. All Nigerians home and abroad MUST jointly condemn this impunity and unilateral decision without respect to the International airline rules and regulations. The authorities in Khartoum MUST pay compensation and apologies for this action without which the creator will hold them to accountable.
