Sudan is waging a decisive political and military war against rebellion in the country, Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie, the deputy chairman of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) who is also Assistant to the President, has told the Khartoum state legislative assembly. In his speech Nafie said the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) has its eye set on the capital Khartoum as part of a new plan that is based on part on coordination with political opposition groups, adding that SRF chairman Malik Agar sent a letter to South Sudan government outlining his new military strategy dubbed “Plan B”, crafted after SRF lost Abu Karshola area in South Kordufan to Sudan army in late May following a one month occupation. “The letter stressed the need to "localize" SRF elements in major cities such as Kadugli (South Kordufan), Al-Obeid, White Nile, North Darfur capital El-Fashir,” Nafie said, adding: “But the army managed to block deployment of SRF fighters east of South Kordufan state at a battle in Um-Barambita.” Nafie revealed that the army will focus more on securing Darfur towns to protect it from rebel assault and particularly in El-Fashir, North Darfur and Nyala, South Darfur, but he dismissed the possibility that SRF could overrun El-Fashir adding that Darfur is mostly free from any rebel presence except for few pockets with forces affiliated to Sudan Liberation Movement of Mini Minawi (SLM-MM, Abdul Wahid Nur’s Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM-Nur) He stressed the necessity for mobilizing and deploying popular defense forces (PDFs) along with other regular forces in El-Fashir and Nyala. Cautioning the lawmakers, Nafie said the army is in want of necessary “deterring forces”, and implored upon Sudanese people mobilize and boost their support for the national army. The presidential assistant went as so far to accuse the opposition inside of “collaborating” with the military wing of so called Sudan Revolutionary Front (SFR), pointing to the opposition’s a 100-day plan, which he termed as “timetable” for overthrowing the regime. Nafie said that the details of plan include staging symposiums in 6 suburbs of the capital Khartoum, 3 in major cities of Omdurman, Bahri and Khartoum, and the final decisive symposium in coincidence with the entry of rebel Abdul Aziz Al-Hilu in eastern square of University of Khartoum. “The opposition has set up a committee for reactivating political and information work made up of people known to us…the committee is tasked with stirring up problems, mobilizing masses in addition to another committee for opposing Kajbar dam including young men from the Communist, Popular Congress and other parties,” Nafie revealed. Nafie further accused a political party participating in the government – he declined to name – of “playing both sides”. “it has [the party” one foot in and the other out,” he said.
