Suddenly while reading Hitchhiker’s Guide to Galaxy, I was seized with a desire to find out the number of casualties in the Patna bomb blasts. It said 5 and 50 - dead and injured. 5 ! I was wondering whether it’s a big number or not and concluded certainly not, not with our given population. Few days back I was watching some youtube videos tagged like ‘lions vs wild dogs’, ‘bulls vs tigers’ and ‘hyenas vs leopard’ and more like these ‘eagles vs lion’ just to see who lost the battle and got fed and I was trying to emphasise on - how lucky we are, not to feel ourselves(encased )in those rabbits, deers and buffaloes who are eaten alive there in the forest, that is saying to be human and hence salvaged. But Are we ? It’s such a sad planet. Why can’t everyone be happy ? “Too many of humans bring out the animals in them.” And with animality comes frailty and savagery.” Isn’t that ? I like to make such lines, gives me an essence of philosophy. I don’t want to make my writing funny or anything here, but let me list many of the ways people die/get killed, thanks to those morning newspapers( colored with death and injuries) that I don’t read anymore – Terrorists like those Mumbai hotel blasts and 9/11 Then some riot on religion. Then temple stampede deaths. Bus falling somewhere . You choose, there it is – river ? we have it. highways ? we have it. Abyss ? we have it. But somehow we have got adapted , not to death but the news of it . Murder, oh yeah, took out his eyes ? what left one or right ? Left ? Boat upended ? How many ? “What how many ?” How many died . “No one died” No one died ? What ! the boat didn’t sink ? “It did but the lifeguards rescued them. They weren’t far from the shore.” I forgot to mention diseases, it will make a long list – cancer, aids, cholera, tb, what else , yeah fever, dehydration, brain tumour, heart attack, anything left ? uhhh.. tetanus I guess and liver failure, kidney failure and others… I guess I’m digressing. But anyway “ life is for livings and not for the deads ”. Blasts in Patna are deeply saddening and unfortunate. Condolences with families of deceased and prayers with injured. I appeal for peace and calm, as Modi tweeted. I too appeal for peace and calm and I know you guys will do the same. The idea of writing the excerpt came when I thought of some utopian society. Could there be a world in which people are happy and they is no killing and vehicles colliding others ? If I’ll try to be more philosophical, eventually nothing will make sense. I just want to say and…yeah just wanna say that I hope people have love for their fellow beings and instead of killing one another, they go to gym or sandbag punching, or karate classes to break bones and sweat for catharsis. I hope people feel the pain of others in them , not literally but still they understand and act accordingly. Love to all you fellow humanoids. And I just asked my friend how is this piece and he says – No, not now I have a quiz tomorrow. Next time I’ll make it even shorter for him, the fb version. And by the way, today I spit twice on the pigeon sitting on the parapet two floors below my window, the dumbbird waggles as if its just rainwater. poor pigeon.
