Sue Bradford was criticised for posting: Shocking news coming in of Work & Income shooting: awful, but a risk when office becomes front for brutal policies. Unless we actually address why this tragedy happened, itll just happen again. While it might seem bad taste to be politicising a tragedy, talking about how sad it is without actually addressing the elephant in the room really seems quite hollow to me - Id say its a failure of other political figures not to address it. But her timing could have been better you say. Well sure, she could ignore it until it was no longer news, and no ones talking about it much any more. And when the perpetrators of changes to WINZ are back in power to make more changes that will put staff at risk of such. But that would be a cop-out imho. And if you buy into the framing her post as petty point scoring, consider that shes dedicated a large chunk of her life helping people with problems like being homeless etc. More than that, shes recognised if were to have a solution for such issues there needs to be the political will to do so, and has acted on this. What have you done? What Sue is perhaps guilty of is presupposing the causes; while I personally prefer to till facts are known before commenting, looking at what we do know already sadly Ill bet shes very likely correct in her apparent assumption that the policies and processes WINZ are having to enforce have pushed someone over the edge.
