Suffering what good is it? The Bible teaches that we must suffer times of trial if we are to share in the glory. Is it worth it? Read what Paul says in Romans 8:18: ...For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (this present life) are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us at His coming! Romans 8:18The Message (MSG) 18-21 That’s why I don’t think there’s any comparison between the present hard times and the coming good times. The created world itself can hardly wait for what’s coming next. Everything in creation is being more or less held back. God reins it in until both creation and all the creatures are ready and can be released at the same moment into the glorious times ahead. Meanwhile, the joyful anticipation deepens. Many of us suffer because we are sowing to the flesh (carnal natures) and not the spirit; God warns in scripture that if we sow to the flesh we will reap destruction, but if we sow to the spirit it brings forth life in us. Some reasons for suffering: Lack of Knowledge we suffer, Lack of Spiritual insight we suffer, by making wrong choices. Suffering bring humility and brokenness of our hearts: He wants to break off things like pride, rebellion, selfishness and independence; He wants us dependent on Him. It tests our faith and allows it to grow; It allows God to show Himself strong in us. It breaks idolatry out & off our hearts as we see the destruction it brings. We learn obedience by the things we suffer; just as Jesus did. We learn compassion as we minister the grace & hope that we have received when we encounter others suffering with similar problems. We learn to trust God over our circumstances. We learn to trust His Word and speak it over our lives. We learn to allow His Word to take root in our hearts; so that the TRUTH can set us free! Suffering can be a good thing; if we become reliant on God and allow it to have its work in us. We need not look at the problem, but know God is working it out for our good. Remember Character is not developed in the good and peaceful times; trouble reveals the nature of our inner self. Trouble proves what is inside of us. Tribulation will eventually develop patience if we are properly trained by it. Stop the suffering that is self inflicted by stupidity and disobedience. But dont resist that which must come to bring us character. -- embrace it and allow it to have its full impact to develop our character of heart. Bro T.
