Sufjan Stevens for Day 21, eh? Like much of my record collection, hes definitely an acquired taste. Im chuffed that hes shuffled up, but a little dismayed that its this track cos it suffers from his habit of writing pretty, mellow little melodies like this one, then sticking a cat-on-a-piano guitar solo right in the middle of it, presumably for the sake of being Arty.* Not ALL of his stuff goes weird-arsed like this, much of it is delicate, chilled-out and intriguing, but the Shuffle Lords would be slipping if they gave you an easy ride, wouldnt they. This track is an outtake that never made it onto the Come On Feel The Illinoise! album, yet its head and shoulders above many artists filler material. Youll love it! Naaaah you wont. (* Ive just had the terrible thought that maybe he does it to be Jazz - if I find out THATS his game, hell be straight off to the Recycle Bin before his heels can touch the bloody floor.)
