Suggestions to Attain a Long and Happy Marriage Notes from Mr. Bob Dicks sermon by Marino B Bual January 22 Before marriage You have to really be in love Like each other as friends, with respect and trust Trust requires that you dont disappoint each other and maintain your integrity Pay attention to each other like each others manners, etc Consider loving one another as a commitment and apply the Golden Rule Get along with parents-in-law - it is false assumption that when you marry, you dont marry the family - they become part of your life] - treat them with honor and respect Do things as family with family but always have time for each other During marriage Be committed to each other - - commitment is always important Be aware of each others feelings Do things together Laugh with each other Always communicate with each other. Many couples do not communicate. Say I love you everyday Learn to compromise - you cant do it your way or her way Stay with the What Ifs until you come into an agreement Whatever comes up, trust that things will come OK and believe for the best With trust, give each other latitude - - breathing room When something breaks dont impute any blame be thankful that by replacing what was broken, you get the latest model with all of its attendant benefits Dont take an argument to bed - - solve them first Dont go to bed mad at each other. Satan is always opportunistic and uncontrolled anger crosses into sin. Ephesians 4:26 - If you are angry, let it be without sin. The sun must not go down on your wrath; Ephesians 4:27 - Do not give the devil a chance to work on you. Put each others welfare first. Children will feel secure when they see their parents love and concern for one another. (Genesis: 2:24 - That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body.) Read and study Proverbs 31:10-31 (The Virtuous Woman or Husband) In reading the verses just change the gender as the verses apply to both husband and wife. Be fair to one another as summarized by the Golden Rule in Matthew 7:12 - Treat others the way you would have them treat you; this sums up the law and the prophets.
