Suicide isnt selfish because nobody truly wants to deal with another persons emotional brokenness. The afflicted can either fully express their darkness and watch as their friends and loved ones learn how to avoid them, pay a shrink who doesnt care and get on the pills, or just hide it. Theres no real solution for some folks and a permanent respite can literally be the most attractive way out of the cold.
