Sultan Bahoo RA k Karamaat. Not many people are familiar with Sultanul Arifeen Sultan Bahu Rahmatu Alay. This lack of fame is but one of the karamat of Sultan Bahu(RA) because it is precisely what he wanted. He was born in Shorkote Punjab around 1308 AH, and from an early age, like many of the Awliya, was a source of immense karammat. Sultan Bahus lofty rank was evident even as a child. A single glance from him would cause non Muslims to recite the kalima and send Muslims into a state of ecstasy. His "eyes of elixir" were so disruptive that the towns people came to home one day and requested to his mother , Ma rasti, that a sentry be posted outside his door, and when the young Bahu would go out the sentry could sound an alarm so the towns folk could hide. He writes in one of his poems: “Half gaze of Bahu is better than one hundred suns” As a teen, Hadharat Bahu was blessed with his first visit to the court of Rasoolulllah , introduced by Sayidina Ali Karam Allah Wajhu himself. Recently on this forum the issue of individuals giving bayat directly to Rasoolah (SAW) has been discussed, and the question was raised, how does this occur? This is one way this is accomplished, by visiting the court of Rasoolullah in waking state. During this first visit, Sultan Bahu (RA) did just this, he writes that he placed his hands in our beloved Nabis hands and gave bayat directly to him. Sultan Bahus constant imbursement in the elixir of Unity caused him to neglect learning the worldly sciences. In one of his writings he says, “I did not have time to spare for formal education but spiritual experiences, divine favor, guidance and esoteric conquests have enabled me to acquire such vast knowledge that it would require many files of paper to record. Spiritual realities have so enlightened my inner being that both esoteric and exoteric sciences have been revealed to me…neither did I have time to perform daily awrad because from the beginning, I have been immersed in the ocean of Tawheed” Despite his high rank amongst the seekers of knowledge, and giving bayat directly to Rasoolullah, millions of salaams be upon him, he still sought the mentorship of a qualified Murshid Kamil. In his book “Amirul Kaunain” he writes “For thirty years I have traveled far and wide in search of a Murshid Kamil” This being because all of the Awliya have had a Murshid to help perfect them and guide them on their path to Fana, Hadharat Abu Saeed Khair was the Murshid of Hadharat Abdul Qadir Jilani, Hadharat Hasan Basri was the Murshid of Hadhrat Hsbib Jami (Blessings be upon on all of them) and so on. He found this Murshid Kamil initially in Sheikh Habibullah Qadir. After witnessing Sultan Bahu perform Karamat equal to his own. He quickly sent him on to another more qualified Murshid named Pir Abdur Rahman Shah Dehlwi Qadri. Sultan Bahu met Sheikh Abdur Rahman(RA) and with one glance, Abdur Rahman imparted all that Sultan Bahu (RA) lacked. Sultan Bahu (RA) was not a fan of the spotlight, he moved from town to town, and in each town he met many people who benefited from his teachings and presence, not to mention his intoxicating glance. At one point he passed by a Grand Masjid in Dehli which was jammed packed with worshippers. As he passed he imparted his tawajuh upon the inhabitants of this masjid. Thousands of people were sent into a state of jazb except for 3 individuals. Those 3 individuals made their way through the crowd to Sultan Bahu(RA), those three individuals were the mayor of Dehli, the Wazir to the king, and King Aurangzeb himself. They inquired why they were not affected by this spiritual phenomenon, Sultan Bahu(RA) replied “ It is because of the hardened condition of your inner self”. A normal king may have had this wali executed after such a statement, but Aurangzeb was well known for his piety. The King asked to become a talib of Sultan Bahu in order to cure this hardness of self. Sultan Bahu agreed and writes about his time with Aurengzeb in his book “Aureng Sahi” Many of you may be wondering about this glance of his, called by many as “The eyes of Elixir”. Well, many people of his time also inquired to him about this glance of his. On one occasion three young seekers sought far and wide for Sultan bahu(RA). Not an easy task, since his time with Aurengzeb, and rumors of his glance, he had gained a bit of fame, of which he rejected. So to avoid the eyes of the people, he used to travel in disguise. The three seekers finally found him on the outskirts of a village in Punjab, and they politely implored the Wali to tell them about the “Eyes of Elixir”. Sultan Bahu did not verbally respond to them, he simply glanced up at a nearby woodcutter who was in mid-stroke about to chop some wood. With one gaze Sultan Bahu transmitted his spiritual attention to the woodcutter, who became motionless, starring into the sky. Sultan Bahu then turned to the seekers and said “the woodcutter has your answer on our return journey” They set off, and upon returning to the spot where the woodcutter was, they found him as they left him, albeit covered in dust and leaves. Sultan Bahu once again gave him spiritual attention, at which point the man fell at the feet of the Wali begging and imploring him to send him back to the state he was in. Sultan Bahu asked the man to explain to these men what you experienced. The wood cutter said “Moments ago I saw you passing by me, when suddenly I experienced a pure state of Illumination, peace and felicity. I was drowned in the ocean of Allah’s light and Rahma. Annihilation is a blissful rapture. Please, for the sake of Allah, return me to that state.” Sultan bahu turned to the seekers and said “What you have witnessed is but a small drop of the reality of what is meant by ‘The Eyes of Elixir’. You cannot comprehend nor withstand the tajjaliyat of its reality” he then turned and addressed the woodcutter saying “Carry on with your work, do not despair, your inner state is now luminous and you will experience the same state intermittently”
