Sulu Village Cultural Presentation December 5, 2014 The Sulu Village presents a four-phase programme: a) Launching of Sulu Art Exhibit of multiawardee visual artist Rameer Tawasil; b) a lecture on the Sulu Sultanate and Battle of Bud Daho; c) Taguri: A film showing, and d) The Suratan of Putli Jawhar and Sayyid : A Cultural Presentation. Highlighted by a powerhouse group of speakers: Congresswoman Sitti Djalia T. Hataman, Commissioner Mehol Sadain, multiawardee DPWH Secretary Emil Sadain hosted by yours truly and Asec Don Loong. It was highlighted by the DPWH Choral Society rendition of Lupang Hinirang on the stairs of the bamboo replica of the Astanah Dar ul Jambangan with, but the biggest surprise was the appearance of MNLF Chair Prof. Nur Misuari talking about the taguri which elicited oohs and aahs from the audience. The presence of Sulu Royal family members such as Dayang- Dayang Sheramar Kiram (daughter of late Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III and Carol Tulawie), Dayang Dayang Putli Rohel (daughter of Dayang-Dayang Nurhati Kiram and Datu Mulok Juklkarnain), Dayang-Dayang (daughter of Sulu Sultan Esmail Kiram II,Dayang Dayang Pindakung Asakil, Dayang-Dayang Ana Ansaruddin (the Congreswomans grandmother and mother respectively) lend credence to the occasion. The lead cast of the Suratan are: Sayyid (Benhar Musa), Putli Jawhar ( Fatima Arlene Sahibuddin) and AMina ( Jessamine Salve) under Prof. Raffy Jaire of Ingat Kapandayan, Notre Dame of Jolo College. A mixture of elegant fascinating and haunting cultural presentation, against a backdrop of the beautiful luhul, designed and executed by Rameer Tawasil and a lecture on the Sultanate, surely the Tausugs can mix the cerebral and the visual altogether, for a night to remember. As one viewer commented: It felt like we were in a royal banquet... the subtle and delicate pangalay displayed by the performers were nothing short of enthralling. The plot was good, and the voice of the host added sophistication to everything last night. What a way to cap a quarter of a century of ARMM.
