Summary For Lesson 4 Being And Doing The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life. (Job 33:4) Breath On Me - https://youtube/watch?v=oOWL0561Tbc What a powerful lesson this week. Unless SELF is crucified at the foot of the cross, the empowering work of the Holy Spirit through the Grace of God cannot transform our hearts and minds. During this week, God reminded us that to become doers of His word, we must be connected to Him. The same way that the vine is connected to the branch, we must be connected to God. We need a blood transfusion so that a thorough cleansing can occur in our lives. God so desperately wants to do this work in our lives but if we continue to hold unto our carnal nature all that He can do for us will never be accomplished. Total surrender to the Holy Spirit is required from all of those who want to sit at the welcome table in the New Jerusalem. Fleeing the very appearance of evil is very important in ensuring that we can walk today where Jesus walked. Only when God is in control of our lives we will hate sin. So many people are trying to be good and kind to those around them. But true kindness and goodness cannot come from a heart that has not totally surrendered to the control of the Holy Spirit. Only a heart that is connected to God can do the will of God. Sis White said, “All true obedience comes from the heart. It was heart-work with Christ. And if we consent, he will so identify himself with our thoughts and aims, so blend our hearts and minds into conformity to his will, that when obeying him we shall be but carrying out our own impulses. The will, refined and sanctified, will find its highest delight in doing his service. There is no evidence of genuine repentance unless it works reformation. If he restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, confess his sins, and love God and his fellow men, the sinner may be sure that he has passed from death unto life. When, as erring, sinful beings, we come to Christ and become partakers of His pardoning grace, love springs up in the heart. Every burden is light, for the yoke that Christ imposes is easy. Duty becomes a delight, and sacrifice a pleasure. The path that before seemed shrouded in darkness, becomes bright with beams from the Sun of Righteousness. The loveliness of the character of Christ will be seen in His followers. It was His delight to do the will of God. Love to God, zeal for His glory, was the controlling power in our Saviours life. Love beautified and ennobled all His actions. Love is of God. The unconsecrated heart cannot originate or produce it. It is found only in the heart where Jesus reigns. We love, because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19, R.V. In the heart renewed by divine grace, love is the principle of action. It modifies the character, governs the impulses, controls the passions, subdues enmity, and ennobles the affections. This love, cherished in the soul, sweetens the life and sheds a refining influence on all around. When we know God as it is our privilege to know him, our life will be a life of continual obedience. Through an appreciation of the character of Christ, through communion with God, sin will become hateful to us. Faith works by love and purifies the soul. Faith buds and blossoms and bears a harvest of precious fruit. Where faith is, good works appear. Christ and the believer become one, and His beauty of character is revealed in those who are vitally connected with the Source of power and love. Christ is the great depositary of justifying righteousness and sanctifying grace. Faithful work is more acceptable to God than the most zealous and thought-to-be holiest worship. It is working together with Christ that is true worship. Prayers, exhortation, and talk are cheap fruits, which are frequently tied on; but fruits that are manifested in good works, in caring for the needy, the fatherless, and widows, are genuine fruits, and grow naturally upon a good tree.
