Summary of my discussion with Max Semken about an hour ago. East/West Link is expected to cost between 20-30 billion dollars in total! Yes, true, even though Napthine has been keeping quiet about these questions since he announced the commencement of the planning for the tunnel. As a consequence, the Metro rail tunnel, Cranbourne East, Doncaster, Rowville, Rye and Mernda rail extensions are under a major cloud along with reintroducing trains to Leongatha, Mildura, Cobram, Geelong to Castlemaine and Horsham. The Monash/Eastern Freeway will continue to get worse unless the Caulfield to Dandenong or even as far as Pakenham has 4 tracks for all trains to operate. As well as this more trains to these suburbs are required along with Frankston and Cranbourne. Max said that it was completely gridlocked and building East/West Link will make no difference. Also, heres another interesting allegation, apparently the state government never had any money allocated or enough towards reopening the Leongatha, Mildura and Cobram lines after the Ararat and Bairnsdale services were reinstated. There was some more interesting things that we alluded to in our discussion, however, we came to the conclusion that rural Victoria is becoming even more isolated from Melbourne due to the state government having a desire to only upgrade what the city has available now. Ill hopefully be chatting to Max again soon. My suggestion to anyone who wants these trains to be introduced or reintroduced to these communities is to start questioning your local member of parliament and councils about this issue given that there is a state election coming up in November.
