Summary of tonight’s meeting A small group of concerned residents hosted a well attended meeting tonight (once again people queuing out the door). Well done to them for all speaking so well and hosting such a big crowd. Gareth presented on each of the proposals: 1. Gas power station (this has planning approval) – it is likely money will be the stop or start now on this potential project on the old power station site 2. Inch Cape – (this is at the planning stage, I was a little unclear on whether this can still be challenged) cables being routed underground (including battlefield site) to bring electricity from off-shore wind farms and link to the national grid 3. Cockenzie Energy park (the proposal which is being focused on) – this does not have any planning approval as yet and is at scoping stage. Full details can be found by searching for “Cockenzie Energy park” and you will see them on the Scottish Enterprise website Shona suggested some text for a petition for the community to sign together as one voice. Andrew hosted questions from those attending. Many local residents put forward their views. The majority response was to support a positive vision for the future and not accept any of the current proposals Further suggestions were made to put together petitions and a template letter that the local community could sign individually and send to local MSP/Council etc. Moving forward – lots of good suggestions for ensuring involvement of the right people with the right skills, from how to address the politicians etc. to how to get legal support. Those attending were asked to give their email addresses for future group emails and contact details and their thoughts on the proposals. People were also asked to include their details if they had skills and were willing to help on one of 6 small working groups: COMMUNICATION, POLICY & PLANNING, COLLATING OUR VISION, DOCUMENTATION & RESEARCH & GATHERING INFORMATION I’m sure next steps will follow soon including petitions and letters etc. but as you can appreciate the group worked hard to put together tonight’s meeting (as well as STV appearances today!) and will be having a well earned rest for the rest of this evening and further communication will come soon.
