Sun Ba Gua Zhang and Taijiquan with Tim Cartmell December 6 and 7, 2014 – Rochester NY Sponsored by Rochester Chen Style Taijiquan and The Rochester T’ai Chi Ch’uan Center Sun Style Ba Gua Zhang - 12/6 Saturday Each session limited to 18 people, A background in Ba Gua Zhang is not needed to attend this seminar Session 1: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM - Ba Gua Fundamentals/Review, Hand Maneuvers, Basic stepping, Fan Zhang, Palm Changes Session 2: 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM - Snake and Sparrow Hawk Ba Gua forms Session 3: 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM - Ba Gua Martial Applications Snake is a variation of one of the original three forms that the founder taught. With single and double palm change, it completes the fundamental training of overall body use in Ba gua zhang. The form is designed to teach the ability to move the body at oblique angles that are very useful for standing grappling defense as well as spiral throwing techniques. The Snake form is also excellent exercise for spinal mobility, posture and core strength as it involves a dynamic, twisting back arch movement, as well as teaching how to change levels rapidly from high to low. Hawk is a variation of the Double Palm Change and teaches the ability to spin rapidly on one leg, making it excellent training for balance and rotational stability. Technically it introduces foot catching and trapping techniques as well as practical standing joint locking techniques. He has over 30 years’ experience in martial arts such as San Soo, Xing Yi, Bagua, Taiji, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. After spending over 10 years in Asia studying various martial arts and fighting full contact matches, Tim returned to the US to teach as well as study ground fighting under Cleber Luciano.
