"Sun"Glasses at Night? Not Just for Pop-Stars and Stoners. New Use for an Old Tool: Tinted-lens Glasses have always been referred to as "sun" glasses. It is a likely jargon because of the glasses obvious intended usage during the day. I have discovered, merely by accident, a use that offers reason for reevaluating the nickname of Tinted-lens Glasses. I was tending a camp fire the other day when my "sun" glasses managed to fall from my head, and down over my eyes, as I had moved in such a way to dislodge them from their evening resting place atop m newly bald head, as their uses no longer necessary absent the light of day. Considering my task to the fire and the fact that the glasses themselves where merely a minor nuisance, I carried on. Upon satisfaction of the state of the blaze, my hand reached to reposition the shades as my eyes fell to the grass beneath me. Before I could remove the shady eye vales, they did reveal, after previously believing to have afforded proper respect, by way of distance, to the glowing embers that shown aglow at the fires feet, there were more glowing coals, though they small and dim, easily equally malicious, right beneath my bare, flesh-laden feet. After avoiding injury by the hands of unforeseen fire mines, rejoiced in my new and genius, however accidental discovery. The trick is simple. the less light you have from other, more ambient energy sources like the sun (or its reflection of the moon), or electric light, the more available the infrared-like light of the hot coals will be available to your optical sensors[eyes]. If Tinted-lens Glasses can be used to make the Sun seem less bright, they can also make a dark night seem even darker. Yes, "sun" glasses may protect your eyes from slow deterioration caused by the harmful waves of the Sun, but "fire" glasses, as they will now also be known, will save your soles from an immediate, fiery inferno.
