Sun today 14 November: Very heavy cloud and rain this morning but sun came out early afternoon with increasingly clear skies from SW. Low altitude affecting seeing conditions above rooftops. In white light its good to see the return of last months AR2192, now as AR2209. Cant quite understand its configuration; the main component appears to have a central hole surrounded by a ring of penumbra and darker umbral regions. The western components comprise two, differently sized, very conspicuous sunspots . The whole region is amid an extensive network of faculae. Approaching the meridian, the scatter of pores making up AR2208 are difficult to describe. On the NW limb AR2205 is decaying amid extensive faculae. Close by, the dim bipolar AR2211 is developing slowly. In the NE quadrant a tight pair of small pores is AR2212, not sure whats happening there. In the PST bright plage is seen around AR2208. A couple of hot-spots may be leftover flare activity from earlier today. Plage is also visible around AR2205 but, rather surprisingly, is not particularly bright around AR2209 which looks quite different in H-alpha compared with its white light image. No flare activity was observed in any of these regions. Two conspicuous dark filaments are visible on the disc; a Y-shaped one in the SE quadrant and an E-W orientated one in the NE quadrant. A few wispy filaments are seen in the NW and SW quadrants but these are thinner and fainter. A bright arch-shaped broken pyramid is visible on the E limb and a complicated hedgerow is seen on the NW limb with a large prominence extending to a height of some 94,000km above the limb. A short inclined pillar is visible on the SE limb.
