Sunday 1/4/2015 Seattle Metro DW Forecast, Data as of 11am My Take: Acclimatizing back to the PNW after a weeklong surf trip to SoCal. 45F and rain is less sweat producing than 65F and sun, so there is always a positive way to look at things. But for DW prospects today……. Still looking like a late afternoon showing, if at all. So with great risk for yet another lightwinder downwinder I am proposing a 2:15 meetup at Enatai. If the forecast is correct we might get just whitecapping conditions. Summary: A front is forecasted to roll thru the metro starting late afternoon. Regional gradients are starting to shake the Northern Inlands with a bit of stirring closer to home. The gradient trend does suggest building into the afternoon per forecast. Tides: We are stuck in a daytime “higher low water” situation for another few weeks. Expect lots of bounce and reverb for the sound. Low Tide = 10:45 am 7.0 feet High Tide = 3:30pm 10.9 feet Sunset = 4:31 Sound Water Temp = 50 Lake Water Temp = 48 4am Detailed NWS Forecast/ SeaTac (to show lake potential) Ksea... East southeasterly winds 4 to 8 knots becoming southerly 10-15 knots with gusts to 25 knots around 4pm 9am NOAA, Puget Sound ...small craft advisory in effect from 4 pm pst this afternoon through monday afternoon....today...se wind 5 to 15 kt...becoming s 15 to 25 kt late in the afternoon. wind waves 2 ft or less...building to 2 to 4 ft in the afternoon. rain. .tonight...sw wind 20 to 30 kt...easing to 15 to 25 kt late. Wind waves 3 to 5 ft...subsiding to 2 to 4 ft. rain. .mon...w wind 15 to 25 kt...becoming sw 10 to 20 kt in the afternoon. wind waves 2 to 4 ft...subsiding to 1 to 3 ft. rain. Favorable: Wind in the forecasts, pressure gradients just beginning to wind up, wind likely to stay into tomorrow mid day. Unfavorable: It hasn’t hit the metro yet. Wet. Pressure Gradient Trend We are still early into this one but all indications are that the front will bring wind into the Metro before sunset. Wind Sensor Readings Ferry runs at 11 am show low to teens from the SE. Land sensors still weak. Radar Odds of staying dry are slim. Mask? Snorkel?
