DAMAGING WINDS DEVELOPING ACROSS THE STATE ON MONDAY, FOLLOWED BY LATE BLIZZARDS IN THE ALPS Weather Situation A rapidly moving cold front is expected to enter the far southwest of the state early on Monday and reach northeast by the end of the day, triggering damaging wind gusts for the elevated terrain mostly and late blizzards in the Alps. Damaging winds over 80 km/h with peak gusts over 120 km/h are expected to develop near Alpine Peaks soon after midnight, during early hours on Monday. Damaging wind gusts over 90 km/h are forecast to develop during late morning or early afternoon hours on Monday for the Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains forecast districts and elevated parts of the Australian Capital Territory, Mid North Coast, Upper Hunter, Northern Tablelands, South Coast and Central West Slopes & Plains forecast districts. Blizzard conditions are forecast to develop for the western parts of the Snowy Mountains forecast district during Monday evening. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
