Sunday 18th May 2014 Played at Dromintee League game No.5 Throw-in 2-30pm Belleeks squeeze out of Dromintee with full points. Armagh All County Junior League Dromintee 2nds 1-5. Belleeks 0-13 Belleeks went into this game a little inexperienced, somewhat understrength, but after a terrible poor first half, just a single point separating the side’s at the break, 0-3 to 0-2, were fortunate, that they weren’t behind, that is if the home side’s shooting had been at least average. Glen McCoy opened the scoring for Dromintee after around fifteen minutes played, the game having a thirty-minutes hold up, due to the lateness of the referee. Belleek’s football wasn’t good, caught in possession much to often, taking the wrong options, but they dug in, Martin Browne kicked over an equaliser, only for Aidan Morgan to regain the lead for Dromintee. Sean McCreesh and Paul Byrne pointed Belleek in the right direction to lead at the break, an advantage they weren’t to lose for the remainder of the game. Belleeks came out a more determined side in the 2nd half, well for twenty minutes of it anyway. Seamus Finnegan broke through for an early point; Cathal Hayes added another, followed by Finnegan and McCreesh again, to open up a 0-7 to 0-2 lead. Belleeks were now flying, Browne and Hayes were dominating the centre field, Sean McCreesh was finding space and young Stephen Finnegan was coming steadily in to the game. Bad habits die hard though, and for ten minutes Belleeks just lost their direction, their way, Dromintee lashed over two points to close the gap to three. Paul Byrne was battling hard at the edge of the square, kicked over a good score and two successive points from Stephen Finnegan, and he added a 3rd near the end after trojan worked from Paul Byrne who chased a lost cause up and alleyway, got in a block and young Finnegan took his score well. In the last few minutes Belleek had to live on their wits, Gerard Clarke flashed a thundering shot that struck the woodwork on its way to the visitors net, to narrow the deficit, but points either side of that Dromintee goal, from Shane Lavelle and Paul Byrne seen Belleeks over the line. While they weren’t at their best, and only they know why they weren’t, Belleeks nevertheless did just enough to get the result, Dromintee put it up to them, particularly in the opening half, and to a lesser degree late in the 2nd, with some very good movement, if only their shooting had been better, but then again Belleeks were just as guilty when it came to the shooting themselves, but two points and a win was established, and that was the sole intent of the purpose, the improvement can come later. Belleeks line-out- Martin O’Callaghan, Shane Quinn, Niall Fearon, Cathal McShane, Ronan Davies, Brenden McShane, Lorcan Quinn. Cathal Hayes, Martin Browne, Seamus Finnegan, Sean McCreesh, Shane Lavelle, P.J. Carroll, Paul Byrne, Stephen Finnegan. Belleeks Substitutes Sean Og Boyle for P.J. Carroll Belleeks scorers.
