Sunday 1st June: Friday the 30th May will be remembered for many years to come for all that was good about Junior Football at Celtic Park Boyle on a night to remember. Real Tubber had graciously conceded home advantage that resulted in a massive crowd at Celtic Park the majority hoping that Boyle Celtic could quench the thirteen year drought of no league silverware. The Boyle army did not disappoint with a blistering display of pace and fire power outgunning the Real Tubber rearguard with devastating and clinical finishing. Leading Super League scorer Niall Brennan grabbed a hat trick bringing his tally to twenty three league goals. Elsewhere in the Best Western Sligo Southern Hotel Super League Ballisodare United hit St John’s for four courtesy of a double from Damien Fallon plus a goal each from Conor Davey and Paul Devins. St John’s battled all the way but with the exception of a Mattie Davey goal they had no answer to the fire power of the Ballisodare Boys who are now safe in the tables St John’s however may well find themselves in a dog fight for survival should Carrick Town take a point or more at home to third placed Calry Bohs on Sunday morning. Calry Bohs at home to Strand Celtic went down by three goals to one at Hazelwood Patrick Woulfe netting for Calry while Fergal O Hara blasted home two from the penalty spot and Ryan Lynch added the third putting them in fourth place on the leader board. Twenty minutes from time Jamie Bannigan broke on the left for Strand looked up and from twenty three yards chipped an unbelievable goal into the Ballygawley net to give his side hope but ten minutes later Kyle Carthy rifled home the third for Ballygawley and then minutes from time Barry Armstrong on the volley fired home a scorcher to insure a tense finish that in the end seen Ballygawley Celtic earn a semi spot at home to either Manor Rangers or Merville Utd who meet on Wednesday night. City United were at home in Sean Fallon Park to neighbours Glenview Stars in what promised to be another exciting clash City having finished runners up in the Super League and Glenview Runners up in the Premier League but Glenview were fresh from Cup victory last week with confidence running high so any slip by City and they would be seeing Stars. Calry Bohs travelled to the Showgrounds in Carrick on Shannon with little to lose for them but what a massive game for the Town. This was the last league game of the season with a draw or more leaving the Town safe from the dreaded play off’s but it was a tall order against an exciting Calry side. The Town went ahead after only four minutes with a Jack D ‘Lacey rocket and Gearóid Keaney levelled matters for Calry on thirty minutes but the Town were on fire and five minutes from the break Thomas Lavin restored order with a brilliant effort. The second half was nip and tuck with Calry pressing for that elusive equaliser but the glory fell to Conor Shanley on sixty five minutes when he thundered home a glorious third goal for the Town and secure Super League for next season it was a fantastic day for all in Carrick and the result now see’s St John’s and Merville Utd do battle for Super League Status next season yet another mouth watering clash in store.
