Sunday 22nd September 2013 Reading Ladies 17-29 Supermarine Ladies A proud day for Supermarine Ladies as they come away with a bonus point victory over Reading to get their league campaign underway. Supermarine Ladies got off to a great start dominating the game from the kick off. They had a strong pack to drive the opposition back and take the ball forward. It didn’t take long before the first try of the game came from Scrum Half Leanne Sear. Supermarine attacked with great pace and fought through Readings defence with Flanker, Claire Chard adding their second try to the score, converted by Outside Centre, Nat Williams. Reading Ladies put up a good fight and were awarded with a try before half time. The half time score sat at 5-12. The second half got underway with Supermarine kicking to the hosts, but with a strong defence, Reading found it hard to make up ground. Supermarine continued to dominate the game and several phases of play saw them push forward. An injury for the home side resulted in a change of pitch but Supermarine didn’t lose focus and tries for Dee Hardwick, converted again by Williams and a second for Sear soon followed extending the lead for the visiting team. Reading continued to pressure and with the ball in their hands they managed to break away down the wing for their second try. With a few minutes left on the clock Supermarine gave away a penalty try and found themselves down to 14 players. They managed to keep the ball in their possession until the final whistle confirming the win for Supermarine. Supermarine demonstrated some excellent teamwork and fantastic rugby to take the win today and team spirit was certainly on a high. Captain, Claire Legg, commented that she was so proud of everyone today for the performance they put in and thanked their coach, Jamie Barrett, for his hard work and commitment to the ladies.
