Sunday 28th September – Uttoxeter Away This week the Leek Under 8’s (aka The Sharks) travelled to Uttoxeter for their first fixture of the season and on a warm September morning produced some excellent rugby. The team have been working hard during training under head coach Neil Edge and this showed in their performances with some excellent passages of play. In attack the players led the way with some excellent lines of running and support play, Uttoxeter tagged well all morning but the continual support in attack meant that Leek played some fantastic flowing rugby to run out eventual winners. With the introduction of the 6 tag rule being introduced for the Sharks this year the relentless tagging of the Leek team allowed a number of turnover balls to be won. However Uttoxeter were never far behind and played their part in what was great mornings mini rugby. Having had a number of new recuits join them this season they are well on the way to forming a strong team as they did at Under 7’s. Thanks to the Uttoxeter coaching team for organising and refereeing the fixture in a fair and consistent manner allowing the fixture to be played in the spirit of rugby and be enjoyed by all – players, spectators and coaches alike. The Sharks would like to wish Uttoxeter luck in securing the additional land they desperately need to continue to provide excellent facilities and coaching for a thriving mini rugby section. Well done Leek Sharks!
