Sunday August 8 2013. Luke 6:13. And when day came, he called his disciples and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles: Lord Jesus, speak to me this morning. As I meditate on this verse this morning I can’t help but realize that I tend to forget that Jesus had many disciples. This verse starts out, “he called his disciples and chose from them twelve”. I get so focused on the twelve chosen ones that I forgot there were many others. Just as today there are a lot followers of Jesus, many of them would be called disciples. Some, very few by comparison, would be called to greatness, national prominence. Two that come to mind immediately are Billy Graham and Rick Warren. I am sure that if I thought about it for a while others would come to mind. But as I meditate on this verse and what is happening here I am impressed at how you use common everyday weak men to carry out your plan and purpose. These were not educated men. They were not successful men. They were not prominent men. Yet you used them in your plan to change the world. I get so awestruck by your power and the work in my life, and the lives of other people around me, that I forget you use people to accomplish your plan. Some of them are educated articulate people, like the two mentioned above, but you have countless thousands working around the world that are uneducated people that are allowing you to work in their lives to carry out your plan for salvation of the world. Then it finally dawns on me that you can use me if I will surrender myself to you. I am not well educated. I am not considered successful by today’s standards, but I do love you and want to be at your disposal to be used however that can fit into your plan. I love your Lord. Amen.
