Sunday Devotional - Faith vs. Belief How can we tell the difference between faith and belief? Admittedly, this is difficult in the same way it is difficult to see the difference between genuine and counterfeit currency. The main difference I would look for focuses on where you are believing? True faith comes from the heart, not from the mind. “For with the heart man believeth (pisteuo, faith) unto righteousness.” (Rom. 10:10) Do you have a real belief in the center of your being that is backed up with joy over the fact that your prayer has been answered? If you don’t have the joy, then maybe the faith is just belief or hope. Conversely, I have found that there can be a battle in the mind when you are praying in faith. This can confuse the person who is praying by leading them to think that he or she doesn’t have faith and is wavering. In this situation the mind is a battlefield. Sometimes when I am praying in faith for something, in my mind I hear Satan saying, “God won’t do that for you; God won’t do that for you.” When this happens, the devil is trying to corrupt my faith. Once the prayer has been answered, however, he usually changes his tune to: “God didn’t do it, God didn’t do it.” I don’t think his tactics have changed much through the centuries. When you want to distinguish between faith and belief, keep talking to God. Listening to His replies will help you establish what real faith is. On many occasions I have received wonderful presents from God simply by being patient and listening to what He has to say. Sometimes He will say to me, “Wait,” or “Not yet.” Each time I have waited, however, I have received something much better.
