Sunday I left the house and headed up Afton Mt, with the intentions of meandering around the back roads of Nelson county and possibly doing some hiking and exploring and picture taking, but as I neared the top I saw signs saying that Swannanoa was open to the public. I had been many times, but never inside, so... thats where I ended up. As soon as I stepped inside I knew I should turn around and leave... the smell of mold and humidity was so thick in the air, but my curiosity overruled my common sense and so I paid my six bucks and took the self-guided tour. So sad to see such beauty decaying. Just as I was leaving a very nervous man stopped me and asked if I would take some photos for him.... He was getting ready to propose to his girlfriend on the grand staircase. Of course I said yes. And thank heavens she did too. (Last pic. - A very happy man)
