Sunday, June 23, 2013 "Rise, Shine, You People!" ELW 665 Bombs - TopicsExpress

Sunday, June 23, 2013 "Rise, Shine, You People!" ELW 665 Bombs go off; fires are ignited; anger spills into the streets; the hungry line up for food and clothing; hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunami, and earthquakes leap into the headlines. When we see darkened skies on the horizon, and the wind bends the pine trees and pelts us with hail, we want to run for cover. We want to hide. How we stand in the face of the storms that come roaring into our lives tells us something of our faith. Verse three of our hymn gives us a clue, "come celebrate, your banners high unfurling, your songs and prayers against the darkness hurling." We share our bits of bread and sips of wine with prayer and praise to God. The darkness will not win the day. We tell the story. O God, fill us with your grace and peace so we might recognize the power we have in prayer and praise. Amen. Kent L.
