Sunday June 9th, the Franklin Civil War Round Table presents - Conflicted Friendships: John Bull, Uncle Sam and King Cotton: Union and Confederate Naval Strategies in the War for Southern Independence - Kent Wright will explore Union and Confederate naval policies as they expanded worldwide and the resulting impact on Southern sovereignty. During the war, there were several strategies to win the favor of the British monarchy which you may not have heard before. Kent will discuss many surprises, including the tremendous impact of President Jeff Davis’s largest naval force and the single greatest advantage almost handed to President Lincoln. There will be many other topics of interest seldom discussed, including the relationship between the Union army and navy and the almost mythical role of blockage running. Kent is a historian and speaker from Huntsville who last spoke to our Round Table in 2010. A navy veteran, Kent has been researching naval topics for the past 25 years and presents unique and informative programs to many groups. He was instrumental in the development of the Tennessee Valley Civil War Round Table and a good friend to many in Franklin.
