Sunday November 23 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 29-31 James - TopicsExpress

Sunday November 23 Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 29-31 James 5 Praise the Lord! 1 Kings 3:14, “And if you walk in my ways and obey my statutes and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.” This is a wonderful promise that God made to Solomon. We need to know that we can have this promise too. 2 Corinthians 1:20 says, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” Are all the promise for us? Yes in Christ! We need to believe that and add our “Amen” of agreement. Also remember that everything good in your life is a gift from God. Be thankful! We should be people of our word. James 5:12, “Above all, my brothers, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your “Yes” be yes, and your “No”, no, or you will be condemned.” Isn’t it interesting that when James was going to talk about us being people of our word he started off by saying, “Above all, my brothers”? This must really be important. You see, our words have power. Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Since our words have power we should speak what we mean and we should mean what we say. Look at what James said about prayer in James 5:16, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” Now don’t forget that you are righteous if you have given your life to Jesus. You are righteous because Jesus made you righteous. Prayer: Lord, I am so thankful for all Your promises. Help me to really believe them and help me to speak my “Amen” of agreement in faith. I also want to be a person of my word. I know that my words are important and I want to speak life rather than death. Please help me to remember these things and help me to put them into practice. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
