Sunday, October 19, 2014 Just after 11 am units from Washingtonville were dispatched to a reported house on fire on Tower Hill Drive in the village. While responding a large amount of smoke could be seen coming from area letting units know that this would be a working fire. Upon arrival of Car 3 (Hearn) he reported smoke showing from 3 sides and fire showing from the #4 side basement window, indicating a working basement fire. E-584 arrived and split their crew. Due to confirmation that all occupants had exited the building the crews from 584 stretched 2 lines immediately. One line went in the front door on side 1 to protect and hold the basement stairs, while the second line entered through the side 3 basement access. T-579 arrived and split their crew as well. Searches were completed, multiple ground ladders placed and horizontal ventilation was done by 579. Te engine crew had the fire knocked in short order and the fire was confined to the room of origin with little extension. Units remained on scene for just about 2.5 hours assisting the homeowner (a longtime member of our department).
