Sunday, September 21, 2014 The miracles just keep coming! I stayed with Richmond yesterday while Luana and Mila went to a baby shower for Baby Richmond Hill. After a short drive and a lunch of a Bojangles Cajun filet biscuit, we settled in to watch the East Carolina Pirates play the Tarheels of UNC. Now I do know a bit about football, but I sometimes forget where the line of scrimmage is after a kickoff goes out of bounds. When that happened I asked Richmond where the line was and he quickly replied that it goes to the 35 yard line, I think. Of course, I have already hit the delete button on the place, but not that he was able to answer without thinking about it. Each time he can recall something my heart sings. Between plays we we talked about my parents. Ive told Richmond many times how much his grandparents adored him and his brothers and sister, but I told hi again yesterday. My mother and father are always close to my heart, but around my birthday that is especially true. Richmond smiled and said that he was so happy that didnt loose the memories of Mimi and Papaw. The good news is that his self-awareness is intact but that is also the not-so-good news. He has slowly realized his limitations and, as I noted before in an earlier post, his frustration is heart-breaking. Tomorrow is another day, Scarlett. I keep telling myself that anyway. I brought Mila home with me last night for some Tiki and Papa time. I took her to Georges place ( Stratford Station Grill) for her favorite spaghetti dinner and my sweet friend, Georgena joined us. Things were quite lively! Just like he has a dozen times before, Richmond called this morning to check on his little girl. Some things even a TBI canT change! Today Joanna, our older grand-darling, came over to cook with me. I had already made King Ranch chicken for dinner, so we made Ritz-Carlton chocolate cookies and seven-up biscuits. Richmond, Luana, Maryan, Tammy, and Dillon were coming for dinner. Mila napped while we baked. She was more than worn out! McNeal had other plans, so he was the only one missing tonight. I looked around the table and thanked God for our family. We are blessed in so many ways! They have all gone to their own homes now and the house is quiet. Gene gas retired to the bedroom to watch football and I am in the kitchen checking email and waiting for a new TV program to begin. Life is slowly returning to normal or at least our new normal. Tomorrow we will get up and do it all over again. What improvements will Richmond make this week? I pray that God will grant me the patience to focus on the small steps that Richmond is making on his journey to a complete recovery. God bless our friends and family! This is the hardest thing that we have ever faced as a family, but the rewards are greater than any of us could have imagined. Stay tuned. Peace Amen Hillstrong
