Sunday, September 7th inspired by ... Gwendolyn Coggs-Moore Naming Rights “And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.” Genesis 17:15-16 In a business transaction the law firm I worked for handled a sports arena. The buyers were given naming rights. This is a form of marketing for the purpose of promoting the goods or services that will increase the company profit margin. I have always been intrigued with naming things. It is after something is named that it becomes real to me. Think about it. You start talking to someone but after they introduce themselves, they are no longer strangers. The Jewish tradition believes the definition of the name of a child literally crafts the character of that life. I would say that God understood that when he changed Abrams name to Abraham and Sarais to Sarah. Imagine, working in the fields and she calls for him to come in, lunch Father of many Nations! At the market place, I like that necklace Mother of Nations! This childless couple. Imagine the neighbors. Chile, please! But God had plans! God knew the couple was promoting his greatest transaction yet! From them would come the Messiah, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! My question today; what can you name? What fills the womb of your Spirit? Oh, some will mock you but His vision, I am so grateful will surely come. Prayer: Lord, thank you for building character in us and letting our lives provide You a return on Your investment in us. Let us have good success in what we name for Your glory! Amen.
